The Sterling Lady
on
America's Great Loop
for the Second Time!
I think I found the worlds smallest looper, about  25 feet long.
Buzzards Point is a great Marina. All the amenities. They even decorated for  Holloween.
Not to be outdone,,we hung our $2 at the yard sale lighted Jack O Lantern
10/4/09 After 3 days at Buzzards Point Marina, it was time to finaly head south, where it's sunny and warm.
It's so cold out, the window of the salon Fogged up!!
We went thru the cross canal from Lake Barkley to the Tennessee River (Kentucky Lake).
There really wasn't much to photograph on our short cold 20 mile run to Kenlake Marina. Nothing to do here so we stayed aboard for the evening.
10/5/09  It's supposed to rain tomorrow, so we decided to make it a long day, and run 60 miles to Pebble Isles Marina.
I suspect this building was here before the lake was made.
Passed a couple hundred cormorants gathering up to head south.
Guess I am a snowbird too.
It remained cloudy, but did warm up a bit, as we arrived , 6 hours later,at the Pebble Isle Marina's well marked entrance chanel.
There were 7 looper boats plus the Lady @ the marina, and that means only one thing......
A impromptu, pot luck, happy hourz, LOOPER DOCK PARTY!!!
The were about 30 loopers and boaters, at this BYOP get together. Loopers are the greatest people!!
This boat has a special burglar alarm.. I checked ,it's working Danny, eh!
10/7/09
Cause it was Cheap, and because we could, we stayed here two days. Didn't leave until 10 am because at 9 am every mooring , they serve free cinnamon rolls and coffee.
Yesterday, we  took the  courtesy van to Wall Mart, and on the way , there was a Drive Inn movie. Remember those???? When is the last time you saw one???
The trees here are starting to turn,
fall is aproaching!

The  good news is
the sun
was
finally out!
Nice views..
Wow,cypress trees, must be getting further south..yeah!!
As I understand it, this  boat is hauling oyster traps, they cultivate fresh water oysters up here.
The Tennesee went from wide to senic today.
see??
How the Hell did  they get this Tug up there????
There were Canadian Geese and we  weren't in Canada Eh!
Once again,wow!
On a positive note, saw several new houses being built.
Volley ball next
to the
barge chanel.
Banana trees in Tennesee.. Guess so.
Not at all bad,eh!
What the Hell is this???? All day today, these large Spider Webs?? were floating at us in the wind. The  boat was covered.
And Finally,  62 miles later, Clifton City Marine. Happy Hourz!!
10/9/09  While the sun came up, The Lady was heading south, 50 miles and one dam, to Grand Harbor
This part of the River has some real nice homes.
<-----------See the  turtle face????
<-------As I approach a narrow curve in the River, here comes a huge tow
I call him on the VHF, and hold position, right on edge of the chanel.
Got the ol heart pumping I can tell ya. Cruising is hours and hours of boredom, interrupted by brief moments of shier terror!
The penny on the chart is where the boat is, at Hookers Bend, one of the sharpest bends on this river.
Yep, another tow, this time I waited behind him, while he negotiated the sharp corner. That's two things. Remember, they always come in threes.
A mix  of houses and trailers, and several New homes, under construction.
Politically incorect? Nope, just the deep south.
And now for the third thing. This is Pickwick Dam, just 5 miles from our destination today.
This is Towboat US, coming into the lock, to tow us the 5 remaining miles to Grand Harbor. Long story short,,,I got the dingy tow line wrapped around the prop. Opps. My bad.
It was kind of  a neat experience , quiet,  nice breeze, and not driving. So to relieve stress, we had a few  Booty Mary's.
So we got the courtesy car, drove to "town" to Freddy's bar,(felt like keys, palms and everything),and spent $71 on dinner and drinks.
<----My seat at the bar
My strategic position at the bar provided this view...Life is good!!
Luckily, the long walkway out to the dock is well lighted.
Now you can see why they added the lights.
Grand Harbor's Transient Docks.
